 Creative Critical Reflection


1.   How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

My commercial challenges the conventions that many food commercials use. These conventions are color, appeal, sound, and visual. For my tabasco commercial I made sure to use bright colors to appeal to the audience. When you are trying to promote a product your main goal is to persuade the audience into buying it. Because my product was sort of in the food category, I made sure to have appealing backgrounds and foods in order to go with the theme. This commercial can be represented towards groups of people who like condiments and spicy products in general. 

 2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? 

In order to engage my audience I used different transitions as well as lighting. I wanted to include many different clips so the audience gets different ideas on how this product can be used. This type of media can be distributed as advertising. This commercial advertises the brand tabasco. Because the video is solely based on this one product it can be seen as a commercial, video, and internet media. 

3.   How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

My production skills developed greatly by working on this project. At the begging I had little to no knowledge on how to edit and film. I used many different techniques to fit what I think went with the "theme" of the commercial. I wasn't familiar with editing apps I have tried in the past, but I learned many new ways of editing from the help of clip champ. I learned to add rotating transitions, music, and speeding up a clip. This project developed my use of scenery and imagination. I used many at home props and turned them into helpful backgrounds. I was also able to use different color lighting from a flashlight app to add depth in color during many scenes. Overall, this commercial helped improve my skills and helped me greatly for new projects as well. 

 4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project? 

During the editing of my commercial I used both software and hardware tools. For my use of software, I downloaded and edited my film onto my computer. I uploaded my film from my camera and onto a USB. I then transferred my videos onto clip champ where I did all my editing. Because I used a USB to transfer all my film this is also an example of the use of hardware technology.

Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Storyboard scenes 1-12 In my first scene actor #1 will be in the frame either wide shot or mid shot. Actor #1 will be holding a picture and a behind the back angle will be slowly be zooming into her closer.  In the second scene actor #1 will still be in the shot but only from the waist up. As the song is starting out the main part says "do you remember" this will be symbolized through the video as Actor #1 is remembering her night on September 21st. Frame number 3 will now have a up close shot of her hand. When the shot is up close you can now clearly see the two people standing in the picture. The picture is warm and colorful and looks as if it was at a dance. The photo is know extreme up close and is in the same position. As the video goes on you can see that the photo comes to life. This photo is now "moving" because Actor #1 had a flashback. In scene 5 you can now fully see actor #2. This actor is seen putting on a record for the music. Scene 5 is still up for d...

Production Blog ~the importance of scenery

  In the process of my final task, props and settings will be very important. Many of my titles will fall onto props that I use. By this, I mean from the transitions of the different names. This will be done during my editing process. For example, when the camera cuts to a box, the titles may appear inside the box as the actor opens it. This creates fun transitions that use elements of the plot. During filming, I'll take multiple clips with different items. This allows me to have options for the backgrounds. The titles I include may also match the color of the prop. During certain scenes the setting may be the sky, so an example of matching titles is a dark blue or even white font color to represent clouds. Additionally, because the sequence is 2 minutes, the dialogue can't be very long. The dialogue will contribute to the setting and tone of the film. Creating a clear dialogue is the main objective.
