My Music Video

After days of filming and editing I have completed my first ever music video! Looking back to the start of my planning I definitely changed many things. At the beginning I had a whole different idea, however, this idea didn't work to well and I didn't feel comfortable in the direction I was going. Although picking a song might seem easy this was one of my main struggles. Because I wasn't sure on a song to begin with, my previous writings weren't making sense. After I thought things out that's when I finally decided on the song September, by Earth, Wind, & Fire. For this song the thing that stood out to me is creating a flashback to the song. This is because the lyrics say "do you remember....", and I thought I could incorporate a cool storyline. As I chose to work on this project myself I had to manage my time well in order to finish on the deadlines. Looking back I'd say I'm still glad I chose to work alone on this project, this is because I did end up changing my mind throughout so it might have been a problem as a group. This project allowed me to use new lightings and camera angles. At times certain lightings such as the dancing scenes were challenging because I still had to show both actors in the darker setting. For this I used props such as an old colored disco ball, and a light from my phone. Filming all these scenes were interesting and fun because my actors were my mom and stepdad. When having to include more acting in this project, I had to direct and communicate more what I wanted them to do. I included different "costumes" for them depending on which setting I filmed. What I'd say I'm most happy with is my flashback effect. I had this idea brain stormed and put onto my storyboard but I was able to use props (the photos) to create this transition. Overall I learned more about almost everything, from camera angles, to lighting, to special effects. I hope in the end the people who watch this understand my idea and enjoy the music video.
