Genre Research: Thriller
For my genre research PowerPoint, I chose Thriller. My powerpoint talks about the different elements used by the director. This includes lighting, angles, makeup, acting, etc. In this genre of film usually, the director makes it suspenseful. This can be seen through lowkey lighting and casting large shadows. Just like lighting, camera movement is important to give off the setting. Examples of camera movements in a thriller are tracking, panning, and zooming. These techniques are used so the audience knows as little as the actor in the movie does. This creates the suspense of a thriller movie. As stated in the Powerpoint I created, Costumes In thrillers can be subtle or scary. A character might be dressed in “normal clothing” to trick the audience into thinking they are the good guy. On the other hand, they might be dressed up in ripped dark clothing with blood to create uncertainty or a horror effect. Makeup is also an addition to the actor's "costume". SFX is used to turn an actor"un human-like". An example of this can be glitter, paint, silicone, and latex. Props are also used to help create the atmosphere of the scene. Props in thrillers can include, knives, guns, and masks. Additionally, Dark, creepy, and eerie sounds are used to create suspense. Overall the main elements in this genre are, emotion, suspense, tension, terror, anxiety, and surprise. By incorporating these objectives a film will fall into the genre of thriller.
