Genre Research: US

•What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?

- This movie incorporates psychological suspense that leaves the audience at the edge of their seat.

- Mis-en-scene in this film shows the two sides of the characters, they use masks, scissors,  and red suits to show the bad characters.

- Suspenseful music, throughout the film diegetic sound, is played when something bad is going to happen.

- The movie included the depth and background of the characters.

- The situation occurs on a normal day so it is an unexpected event.

- Lots of low-key lighting, created an interesting atmosphere with lots of LED lights such as red and blue during the carnival scene.

•What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?

- I enjoyed the ending of this movie as the character you thought was "good" might have been the bad one all along.

- The gradual development of the storyline made the movie always interesting. By this I mean there was no part where I was bored or felt like no action was occurring.

- The movie was left like a mystery at the end.

- You can interpret the movie in many different ways.

- The more you watch it the more hidden messages you will see throughout.

- The movie took place at different times. For example, when actor Lupita Nyong'o was a child in the begging then the movie later showed her as an adult.

•What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?

- I enjoyed the whole movie but parts I wouldn't include in my project or the more "horror" scenes. This includes knives and blood, as well as some of the characters being killed.
