Music Video CCR

  1.  How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?          As the song I chose was made in the 70's many of the conventions would relate to that time period. Before filming and editing my music video I researched popular conventions in this music genre. The song I chose "September" by Earth, Wind, and Fire falls in the Disco, R&B, and soul genre. Conventions will be presented depending on the style the artist is going for. My product uses conventions such as lighting, props, and camera angles. By using technical techniques I included different angles such as over the shoulder, point of view, and panning. I also included symbolic conventions. My symbolic clips were when I zoomed into my photo as a flashback and then had both my actors pose for a picture that later showed up in the ending scene. When both my actors danced they showed facial expressions and enjoyed the moment creating a happy m...

My Music Video

https://youtu.be/hN2FShJCZng     After days of filming and editing I have completed my first ever music video! Looking back to the start of my planning I definitely changed many things. At the beginning I had a whole different idea, however, this idea didn't work to well and I didn't feel comfortable in the direction I was going. Although picking a song might seem easy this was one of my main struggles. Because I wasn't sure on a song to begin with, my previous writings weren't making sense. After I thought things out that's when I finally decided on the song September, by Earth, Wind, & Fire. For this song the thing that stood out to me is creating a flashback to the song. This is because the lyrics say "do you remember....", and I thought I could incorporate a cool storyline. As I chose to work on this project myself I had to manage my time well in order to finish on the deadlines. Looking back I'd say I'm still glad I chose to work alone on ...

Editing Music Video~ the flashback~

As I uploaded all my film to my computer, I made sure I had all the clips I needed. Now it was time to begin editing! For editing I used the software app my teachers showed me called Clip Champ. As I first started uploading my clips I noticed that the time was over 1 minute. Because the video had to be 58 seconds to 1 minute I was worried my duration would be too long. As I began editing however my time then shortened and I ended up being underneath the time mark. By adding transitions and filters I was able to end on the right time. While editing I had both high key and lowkey lighting. The high key lighting when editing came from my first scenes where I filmed outside. The second lighting (lowkey lighting), came from when I filmed the middle of my music video which was the dancing scenes. When editing these scenes I thought they came out fun and colorful. from the use of my disco ball prop I was able to add pops of colors. Additionally, during the end and beginning scenes I film...

Filming for Music Video Part 2!

Image
For my second day of filming, I focused on the intro and ending of my music video. For the first few scenes the video is a over the shoulder shot of actor #1. As I brought the camera closer you can see her  looking at photos. Because we took the photos from the dancing scenes in the previous filming day, we could now get them printed. We planned to print about 5 of these so there was a variety as if she is looking through an album. For this prop we would go to Walgreens and pick up the photos we choose. After we got the photos we then began filming. For this scene we had to make sure that the photo in her hand matched the scene where they are at the dance. It gets darker earlier now so we had to pick the best time for lighting. The opening scene was shot in a more brighter setting so the actor and pictures were able to be seen clearly. These scenes were actually harder to film because the photo had to eventually be close enough to the camera for the transition to work. Additi...

Filming for Music Video Part 1

Image
As I finished my research, planning, and storyboard, it is now time begin filming. Today I looked back at my sketch and visualized where in my house I would start. Before I started filming I charged up my camera and made sure it was filming properly. For my filming I started out setting up for the second part of the music video. I filmed both actors inside and outside so I had different options when editing. For today actor #1 and #2 had to be filmed dancing, putting on a record, and then posing for a picture. Because the theme of the music video was a dance/night out, I dressed actor 1 and 2 in semi-formal attire. When filming It was hard to get the right lighting when the actors were dancing. I also had to try and transition the scene smoothly when actor 2 puts on the record. When filming I had fun with background props and lights. For example I used a disco light I had and put it in the dancing scene. This created the room to have lights spinning around it and I think it went w...
