Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
Storyboard scenes 1-12 In my first scene actor #1 will be in the frame either wide shot or mid shot. Actor #1 will be holding a picture and a behind the back angle will be slowly be zooming into her closer.  In the second scene actor #1 will still be in the shot but only from the waist up. As the song is starting out the main part says "do you remember" this will be symbolized through the video as Actor #1 is remembering her night on September 21st. Frame number 3 will now have a up close shot of her hand. When the shot is up close you can now clearly see the two people standing in the picture. The picture is warm and colorful and looks as if it was at a dance. The photo is know extreme up close and is in the same position. As the video goes on you can see that the photo comes to life. This photo is now "moving" because Actor #1 had a flashback. In scene 5 you can now fully see actor #2. This actor is seen putting on a record for the music. Scene 5 is still up for d...

Planning for my Music Video

Image
- Planning- To prepare for my music video I will have to gather props, costumes, and actors for this genre. For this theme I will use what I have researched about the conventions in order to lead me in the direction I want to go.  Props For my props I plan on using older clothes and accessories that I have in my house. For one of my ideas in my video I plan on using a calendar to mark the date of September 21st. I plan to do this because the actor will have a flashback to this night and when this scene happens I wanted to include the calendar so it makes sense that it happened on that day.  In my video there will be a variety of costumes. In the opening scene the actor would be in their normal clothes as if they are in the present. Then as they look back into the past that's when there clothes change to that time period. When the actor changes time their costume will most likely fun and bright ass if they were going out to a party.  The main filming location will be ...

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

The song I chose called  "September" was created in 1978. This song was known as being catchy and it even reached number 1 on the US R&B chart. Because this song was created so long ago many of the outfits and themes has changed. Because this song falls in the R&B and disco category many techniques were used to give it that "soul"  effect.  Some examples include A narrative and story line structure, this means the song and video lyrics of the song usually has a story to go along with it. In this genre the singers would dance around and preform on stage. This meant that the camera angles would range from up close, to mid, and to long shot.  Because most Disco and R&B singers would dance on stage the music videos would usually be filmed during a concert. For example the song I am doing was filmed while they were performing as a group. These cameras would most likely use eye angle shots and low angle shots when groups preformed in the 1970's. -Popular ...

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
For our new filming project I am doing a music video! For this project I am sort of nervous because I will need to come up with a good storyline. For the music video will be choosing the song "September" by Earth, Wind, & Fire. This song falls in the Disco/Soul & R&B category. It was hard for me to choose a song and pick an idea but I tried my best to finally choose one that would work best. I chose the song September because it's an old song that I grew up listening too. Because the song is fun and upbeat I thought I could come up with some fun filming ideas. This song was released as a single and was made in 1978. When I first thought what to do for this project I had a different genre. the genre and year was more 2000's but I found it was hard to choose what I actually wanted to do. I finally decided on a song and that's when I changed it to "September". For this project I chose to work individually. I chose to work alone on this project ...

Commercial CCR

Creative Critical Reflection 1.   How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? My commercial challenges the conventions that many food commercials use. These conventions are color, appeal, sound, and visual. For my tabasco commercial I made sure to use bright colors to appeal to the audience. When you are trying to promote a product your main goal is to persuade the audience into buying it. Because my product was sort of in the food category, I made sure to have appealing backgrounds and foods in order to go with the theme. This commercial can be represented towards groups of people who like condiments and spicy products in general.   2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?  In order to engage my audience I used different transitions as well as lighting. I wanted to include many different clips so the audience gets different ideas on how th...

Commercial

https://youtu.be/GIw4e1My0BU After completing my first ever commercial I am pretty happy with the results. I went into this project having little to no experience. I wasn't familiar with transitions, cuts, angles etc.. These new techniques took a while be familiarized. To shoot the commercial I used my Cannon Rebel T6.  I am comfortable using this camera and all of the features.  I noticed that because I like photography I also enjoyed filming. Moreover, I was able to use many techniques I used when doing photography to help with lighting. Looking back something I would change is my timing. Dealing with athletics I had to work on this project more at night. The late hours meant less sunlight so I had to improvise. However, Having a clear idea and strategies did help me though throughout filming. I found that creating a storyboard allowed me to look back at my thoughts. For my commercial I used many at home props. I was able to use objects around my house such as cardstock that...

Commercial Editing Blog

Image
After I was comfortable with the shots I filmed for my commercial it was now time to edit. I took my film on my canon camera so I had to transfer the photos over to my iPad where I can easily edit. I transferred the photo's from a connection app and was able to select which ones to edit. For my editing I used the editor known as iMovie at first, However I ran into a problem of storage. So I then had to use my back up plan and do my editing on the computer with one of the apps provided to me by my teachers. When I was editing I found that many of the clips I took were long. They had sections where I had to rearrange props so I had to cut many parts out. I wanted my commercial to sort of flow together. I moved frames where they looked best in order to create this effect. In the opening scene I was able to edit the bottle where the contrast of light shined across it. This made the bottle have depth and shadow.  What I found most difficult when editing was putting together the actors v...

Filming blog

On Sunday, November 1st I started filming different clips for my commercial. I first had to decide whether I wanted to take the shots on my phone or with my camera. I ended up using a little bit of both and took extra clips. Just in case I preferred the quality on either device I used what was best in the moment. I gathered all the props needed and kept it by a table near me to easily access. One of the props I used was peppers since it went with the theme of "hot". The peppers were a good prop because they added contrast, color, ad I was able to use them in a rotation shot. I found today was pretty cloudy so I couldn't take all my videos from outside if I wanted to use natural lighting. During my filming process I incorporated many backgrounds. I was able to use sheets of paper that were around my house that matched the colors of the product. Once I began setting up the different layouts I switched out the product a couple times using different colors of the sauce. I to...
