Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

Image
The website ' Watch the Titles' shows the importance and hard work put into creating these opening clips. Artist Aaron Becker explains how you don't always have to match the visual effects to the language. By this, he means a title can complement a film without making it feel outcasted and plain. A title can show the abstract parts that the movie will include. This can be from frozen clips and segments displayed. By embracing the art and visualization the audience can see the color and elegance of the production. Many of the titles mimic the characters and storyline included in the film. Different edits and transitions may also be incorporated to bring in other elements. After watching the videos on this website, it opened me up to all the hard work and time put into these film titles. A lot of them I remember watching but never paid as close attention to the details until now.

Title Research: Art of the Title Website

Image
While looking through the "Art of The Title Website" I learned many techniques editors and directors use. I learned that not all credits have to be long and boring. Credits and titles can be overlapped over funny and interesting videos. A collaboration of visual effects and titles can make a film interesting. As the culture of advertising grew, filmmakers began to create better advertising. Titles are one example of this. When looking through the top 10 title sequences, those with color, layers, and emotion have the best reviews. Additionally, titles don't have to have just one scene. Many titles are shown on the website expand over multiple images, and scenes of the movies. This doesn't put the cast and credits into just one part or area in the film

Genre Research : Ma

Image
•What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?  - The movie was suspenseful, in the beginning, Ma, the main character seemed like a good person.  You learn pretty quick that there is something odd or off about her.  Some of the scenes give you a little bit of anxiety as to what's next. - Eariness throughout the film as the storyline played out. - The director included a variety of angles.  He used wide angles to show the entire setting (usually parties) that the students were throwing. - Included reaction/pov shots when something bad would happen.  - Like the movie Ma, I may include a turn in events. This can be either in the middle or the end of the sequence so the audience sees a switch in tone and setting. •What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? - You don't know until the very end that Ma befriended the students to get back at the parents. - It kept me on the edge of my seat wondering wh...

Genre Research : 47 Meters Down

Image
•What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?  - 47 meters down includes suspense and tension.  - The ending of the movie finishes with an unusual twist that the audience doesn't expect. - The movie has a dialogue between the two girl characters. I will most likely include dialogue in my final task to give an idea of the conflict.   - Low-key lighting as they are filmed underwater in a darker setting. - The Mis-en-scene in the movie adds to the thriller theme. This includes the SFX of blood and sharks. As well as the eerie underwater setting. •What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? -  At the end of the movie we realize that Lisa ( one of the girl divers) was hallucinating the whole time. - The movie isn't explained so you have to guess what you think actually happened. - The suspense that Lisa thought she and Kate were saved. But in reality, Lisa was the only one saved on the boat. - The movie...

Genre Decision Blog

Image
After researching at least 2 genres in film, I have to best pick which mine would fit into. Because I am going with a more suspenseful theme I believe a thriller would have more relation than an action genre. Action movies include more fast pace and fighting scenes, while a thriller is more about the storyline in my opinion. Thrillers use more psychological tricks which I think I will use. By having further research and ideas of thriller it will be easier to film. I chose this for my opening sequence because the project is surrounded by suspense. My main two ideas were either, a family/ person trapped inside a "tv" or shown being watched through the other screen. Or,  a person realizing an identical copy of them is living not too far. Both ideas still need to be worked on but overall they have more mystery than action. Because I will be choosing this genre I can incorporate many of the elements. This includes low-key lighting, eerie music, and special effects. The darker mor...

Genre Research: Action

The next genre of film I researched is action. When researching the meaning of action in the film it is stated, " the protagonist or protagonists are thrust into a series of events". These events usually include conflict and fighting. To create an action film many different elements are used. The first one is lighting. Lightning in this genre includes low-key lighting, high-key lighting, Rembrandt lighting, three-point lighting, and motivating light.  There is a variety of different lighting due to the different emotions and settings during action scenes. Additionally, camera angles allow the audience to see the perspective of the character. Common angles are, Some camera angles for action movies include establishing shots, ariel shots, close-up shots, mid shots, and high angle shots. High angle shots for example may create the character to seem small. Low-angle shots will make them look big and intimidating. Because of the fast-paced action, directors use camera movements ...

Genre Research: Thriller

For my genre research PowerPoint, I chose Thriller. My powerpoint talks about the different elements used by the director. This includes lighting, angles, makeup, acting, etc. In this genre of film usually, the director makes it suspenseful. This can be seen through lowkey lighting and casting large shadows. Just like lighting, camera movement is important to give off the setting. Examples of camera movements in a thriller are tracking, panning, and zooming. These techniques are used so the audience knows as little as the actor in the movie does. This creates the suspense of a thriller movie. As stated in the Powerpoint I created, Costumes In thrillers can be subtle or scary. A character might be dressed in “normal clothing” to trick the audience into thinking they are the good guy. On the other hand, they might be dressed up in ripped dark clothing with blood to create uncertainty or a horror effect. Makeup is also an addition to the actor's "costume". SFX is used to t...

My Pitch

Image
For my movie pitch, I want to go with a more suspenseful theme. This doesn't necessarily mean scary, but something that leaves the watchers interested. For my first pitch idea, I want to portray a family/ person trapped inside a "tv" or shown being watched through the other screen. The people being watched have no idea that someone is watching so they are doing stuff they normally would. For example, if I walk up to the TV and clean it, the people watching me either as a show or "spy", will see me from this view. This can portray a lack of power that one may realize they have. The suspense In this comes from the cluelessness throughout the person's life. It may choose them to rethink everything they have done as they are being watched 24/7.  If I do not go with my first choice idea my second choice will be a person realizing an identical copy of them is living not too far. For example, the actor may be driving and then pulls up next to a car. They then reali...

Starting the Final Task

Image
Hi, my name is Jenna Lytch, I am a student at Fort Lauderdale High school, and I'm in the 11th grade. After completing 2 full filming projects I am now on my final task! For this project, I will be creating a 2-minute opening sequence for a film. I look forward to seeing what I choose to do. Because it is the longest project I will need to use a lot of ideas. While completing my final task I'm choosing to work alone. Although working in a group gives you more help, during the pandemic I find it would be hard. Working with others I would have to rely that everyone is able to meet up and film. However, because of the restrictions of parents or even safety, meeting up may be difficult. For the last 2 films I created, I worked alone. Both times ended up successful and I completed my project on time. Because of this, I am hoping this project goes smoothly as well. Additionally, even if I don't work in a group, I can still use my friends as actors. This would help because we a...
